Dental Crown Pittsboro NC

As Pittsboro North Carolina’s very own Tooth Fairy, I sometimes wear a crown (actually it’s a tiara 🙂) quite often. But this article is going to talk about a dental crown. That’s a cap that is placed over a tooth to protect it from further damage. Crowns are often used to repair teeth that have been broken, cracked, or severely decayed. They can also be used to cover teeth that have had multiple fillings.

Types of Dental Crowns
There are a few different types of dental crowns, including:

  • Porcelain crowns: These crowns are made of porcelain, which is a very strong and durable material. Porcelain crowns can be made to match the color of your natural teeth, so they are often used for cosmetic reasons.
  • Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns: These crowns are made of a combination of porcelain and metal. Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns are more durable than porcelain crowns, but they are not as natural-looking.
  • Gold crowns: Gold crowns are the most durable type of dental crown. They are also very resistant to staining, so they are a good choice for people who smoke or drink coffee.

The type of crown that is best for you will depend on the condition of your tooth and your individual needs. During your appointment, I will discuss the different options with you and help you choose the best crown for your situation.

The Procedure
The procedure for having a tooth crowned is a relatively simple one that can be done in two visits to our Pittsboro, NC office. During the first visit, we will prepare your tooth by removing some of the enamel, dentin, and any decay present. We will then obtain a digital or physical impression of your tooth and send it to our dental lab. The lab will create a custom crown that fits your tooth perfectly.

During the second visit, we will cement the crown onto your tooth. The procedure is usually painless, and you should be able to go home and resume your normal activities right away.

After the Crown is Delivered
Dental crowns can last for many years with proper care. You should brush and floss your teeth regularly and see your dentist for regular checkups and cleanings.

If you have any questions about dental crowns or if you need one, please don’t hesitate to call or make an appointment in our Pittsboro, NC office. My staff and I are here to help you make the best decision for your oral health.

  • Two thumbs up!

It was so nice to see how Dr. Laura and her staff have made the lovely new office their own. Even after the many years I have been a patient, I am always impressed with how their warm, professional manner helps to make the procedures understandable and as pleasant as possible. Two thumbs up!

  • Very Professional and Relaxing

I had a cavity and crown prep. The doctor and staff did a bang up job. Very professional and relaxing. Holding my tongue down as they stated could lift 600 lbs and my small mouth to work in they earned their money. However, they were great about it and worked diligently to get me through this.
