As Pittsboro North Carolina’s very own Tooth Fairy, I sometimes wear a crown (actually it’s a tiara 🙂) quite often. But this article is going to talk about a dental crown. That’s a cap that is placed over a tooth to protect it from further damage. Crowns are often used to repair teeth that have been broken, cracked, or severely decayed. They can also be used to cover teeth that have had multiple fillings.
Types of Dental Crowns
There are a few different types of dental crowns, including:
The type of crown that is best for you will depend on the condition of your tooth and your individual needs. During your appointment, I will discuss the different options with you and help you choose the best crown for your situation.
The Procedure
The procedure for having a tooth crowned is a relatively simple one that can be done in two visits to our Pittsboro, NC office. During the first visit, we will prepare your tooth by removing some of the enamel, dentin, and any decay present. We will then obtain a digital or physical impression of your tooth and send it to our dental lab. The lab will create a custom crown that fits your tooth perfectly.
During the second visit, we will cement the crown onto your tooth. The procedure is usually painless, and you should be able to go home and resume your normal activities right away.
After the Crown is Delivered
Dental crowns can last for many years with proper care. You should brush and floss your teeth regularly and see your dentist for regular checkups and cleanings.
If you have any questions about dental crowns or if you need one, please don’t hesitate to call or make an appointment in our Pittsboro, NC office. My staff and I are here to help you make the best decision for your oral health.
